Today, insects are regularly consumed by approximately two billion people spread across 80% of the world’s populations in 130 countries. Edible insects are also gaining traction in North America and Europe in the form of whole insects and insect flour. This commercial industry was valued at 33 million USD in 2015, with future growth estimated at more than 40% by 2023. The United Nations estimates the global edible insect market will be worth $8 billion in 10 years’ time.
